Raising Standards
The threat of the ‘super complaint’ has made the industry move to improve standards, however, wheel alignment is one area, where the levels of servicing is so variable – from the absolutely atrocious to that of total professionalism.
For example; there can be two businesses within a mile of one another promoting ‘Wheel Alignment’. From the motorist point of view, both garages are offering the same level of service – aren’t they?
Business#1 offers: – Measurement on the front wheels only, with a 'hang-on’ styled system, using rusty grease turnplates (with no grease) on the floor, and customer has to take the technicians word that it is out of alignment. (Investment level minimal)
Business#2 offers: - A full simultaneous four wheel alignment, using the latest imaging technology, on a wheel alignment ramp (with superior friction free turn plates), measuring all 14 primary angles and provides the customer with a full printout and adjustment plan. (Investment level high)
These services are entirely from different end of the ‘Standards spectrum’.
Currently confusion reigns and the misconception continues to be self perpetuating. Unless the cycle is broken – the reputation of the trade remains under threat. There needs to be standards for the differing levels of service and a definition or ‘name’ for each level of service provided.
At Pro-Align we are campaigning to raise awareness and improve standards, in an attempt to break the cycle. This will not only benefit not just those that use wheel alignment services in the UK, but those providing the service as well.
Today’s clever thinking ‘wheel alignment servicing entrepreneurs’ are those who measure all four wheels that incorporates both good practice and recommendations /procedures of the car manufacturer.
Hunter is a world leading brand of wheel servicing equipment, with innovative and revolutionary ideas with the aim to improve wheel servicing for workshop worldwide.
